If you have a windows machine you can download the program from www.fastvideoindexer.com/download.htm Add your video clips to the program and click start to extract video frames from and generate your preview photos,

How can I create an animated video preview?

Again you can use the Fast Video Indexer program to create your animated video preview. In the settings select slideshow in the “generate web page to:” box. And you will get a html page showing an animated video preview.
If you are a bit more advanced you can let the program generated static images and combine them in a video authoring program. If use Vista you probably already have windows movie maker installed, just add all captured photos and create a new movie file from them.
